Artist Jay Davenport opens new show entitled "Art in the Home"
MOUNTAIN IRON, Minn. (October 22, 2007) - Artist Jay Davenport announced today an exhibition of his latest works beginning November 26th. "Art in the Home," a collection of still lifes, landscapes and portraits by Davenport are presented in the artist's gallery and adjacent home.
The show runs from 10 to 4 through Dec. 7 and by appointment thereafter. "Art in the Home" features oil paintings, watercolors and woodcut prints. Many of Davenport's newest works depict scenes from northeastern Minnesota, near his home. Other works on display are a retrospective spanning more than 40 years.
"The idea is to offer visitors a chance to experience the art in a comfortable, relaxed setting that may not be all that different from their own home," Davenport said. "I believe the dialogue one has with a work of art is enhanced by the setting in which it's experienced. The new studio gallery offers one distinct experience-and the home setting is entirely different."
More than 50 works of art make up Davenport's collection, including a watercolor series of Native American portraits inspired by turn of the century photographs. His "Born in America" exhibition marked the grand opening of Davenport Art Studio in 2005.
Davenport the artist is also the art student, training in new artistic mediums and keeping an eye out for new inspirations. To make his work more accessible, he launched a new website in June (www.davenportartstudio.com), providing visitors a chance to see his gallery online.
In July, Davenport was profiled in Minnesota Medicine, a journal of the Minnesota Medical Association. He's also been featured in Minnesota Good Age, the Hibbing Daily Tribune, the Mesabi Daily News and the Grand Rapids Herald-Tribune.
