Also, in anticipation of this event, I've been working hard in the studio to add several additional new pieces to my gallery, all of which have been added to my website.
I look forward to meeting you at the Albrecht-Kemper exhibit or at my studio in Minnesota.
Jay Davenport
New Oil Painting Series
I am pleased about the direction my 2008 landscape oil paintings are taking and want to share these paintings with you. I have simplified my palette colors, eliminated Mars black and emphasized light, reflected light in shadows, and created more broken color in the masses of local color. The weather has been beautiful here in northern Minnesota and many of these landscapes were painted out- side (plein air) and on our forty acre home site.
I am particularly pleased with Cool Water, On the Trail, Maple Monarch, and Field of Flowers. Three of the new paintings, Mountain View, Desert Courtyard, and Desert Patio studio paintings are from sketches drawn in Arizona earlier this year.
I hope you enjoy these and other paintings new to the web site and I would like to hear from you .

Press Release
Artist Jay Davenport opens new show entitled "Art in the Home"
MOUNTAIN IRON, Minn. (October 22, 2007) - Artist Jay Davenport announced today an exhibition of his latest works beginning November 26th. "Art in the Home," a collection of still lifes, landscapes and portraits by Davenport are presented in the artist's gallery and adjacent home.
Welcome to My Studio Gallery
The studio gallery is located 75 feet behind my family residence where my wife Martha and I have resided since 1974. After retiring from a 28 year practice of orthopedic surgery and with the aid and support of my wife and three adult children I have acted on a life long ambition to be a full-time artist. This began to physically materialize with the completion of the outbuilding in 2003 and the transformation from a pole barn to a studio gallery in 2005 when we held our grand opening with the exhibit "Born in America", a series of 17 larger-than-life watercolor portraits of native Americans based on archival portraits taken at the turn of the 20th century.
I hope this visit to my website will eventually lead to an on site visit.
